Empowering Deaf Women in Canada

Empowering Deaf Women in Canada is a project designed to ensure that services provided in the fields of violence against women and health care in Canada will respond to the needs of Deaf women, that Deaf women will understand their rights and the services available and that Deaf women can fully participate in the decision-making process. Comparative studies have acknowledged that there is a lack of services for Deaf women in our country, placing Canadian Deaf women behind their peers in other parts of the Western World. CAD-ASC aims to ensure that women can be politically, socially, culturally and economically active in all facets of society. Our “Empowering Deaf Women in Canada” project will build a strong foundation that will allow women to take charge and be leaders in the Deaf community in Canada.

New Horizons for Seniors

The purpose of this project is to link many different groups from the Ottawa community. The bonds that can be created through mentoring programs can provide an outlet for youths and seniors. They can also promote many other beneficial effects such as healthy living, self respect, an arena for learning, the reduction of isolated groups and an appreciation for other cultures. This specific program will also promote ASL/LSQ as true languages. The objective of this project is to reduce the isolation of Deaf seniors, promote ASL/LSQ as true languages and to promote Deaf cultural awareness. Also, it will promote youth interaction with seniors, so that their skills can be passed on through the generations.
